Esce oggi.

English:

We were impressed by the previous efforts of Lee Forster and Oli Warriner as Forriner. In particular, the “Condor” EP released earlier this year won us over for being functional while at the same time carrying enough quality to stand out.

This new “17:17 Neon” EP makes us think something similar. It is, we are told, the last iteration in the Samurai trilogy (unsurprisingly, the artwork has a Samurai drawn on one side of the vinyl) and has an element in common with the previous ones: Forriner have absolutely nailed the choice of remixers. Much like the aforementioned “Condor EP”, where Perseus Traxx and Frank Butters chipped in with their respective reinterpretations and considerably raised the bars, this time we have Steven Legget and Suade revisiting the A-side “The Jungle Is Deep”, while Jo Howard aka Bird of Paradise takes control of the remix for the B-side (and title track).

And it is indeed Legget and Suade’s remix we get trapped into. Dark, angular, syncopated in its beat pattern, this remix is for clued up heads. It’s for those who think while they dance, which is not surprising considering who conceived it. Legget had recently created an ambient masterpiece for Firecracker Recordings after all, so it is only logical to expect more intelligent sounds from him.

On the B-side “17:17 Neon” is a fascinating, dreamy down-tempo adventure, on which Louis Adams’ vocals land in harmony. One for countless radio plays.

The “Bird Of Paradise remix” brings things back to the dancefloor, with a rough kickdrum, subtly acid sounds, and a pulsating bassline to go with it all. Something we wouldn’t be surprised to hear from Andrew Weatherall – which certainly can’t be a bad thing.

It’s out today.
