What is love?
Eravamo tutti in adorazione innanzi all’altare della Techno!

See you on the dance floor!

Original Version:

What is love? Not just a song by Haddaway! Perhaps a million suns bursting in your heart at the same time? We wait for people to give it to us, to have that special feeling but it’s truly a wonder when we can find it within ourselves.
But sometimes external influences, art, music, poetry can generate that same emotion. Such was the case this past weekend with the arrival of Speedy J and Peter van Hoesen at Output on Friday night. Speedy was supposed to play NYC last year but due to Hurricane Sandy he had to change his plans so it was a pure delight to welcome him back to city on this less turbulent occasion. Peter was at Bunker last year with Demdike Stare and Andy Stott (incidentally Clubbersguidenewyork.com Party of the Year) but both together were indeed a rare treat!
Speedy is definitely one of my top 5 dj’s in the world. I’ve seen him play here and in Detroit at the CLR parties and he never lets me down. Solid, driving techno without frills, engineered to make you move. Seeing him at Output (my new favorite spot in the city) was icing on the cake as the Funktion One sound system is amazing. Opening up was Mike Servito – a Bunker regular and always playing a really good set. The feeling of walking into the darkened club (it was packed but not uncomfortably so as the clubs design allows for people who want to just relax a bit more to migrate upstairs) and hearing that booming signature Speedy J sound is incomparable. We were all there to worship at the altar of techno!
Speedy’s set passed too quickly but we still had PVH to go – and his amazing track “Axis Mundi” kicked things off. (not sure if this was Speedy’s last track or Peters’ opening one). Either way it set the tone for beautiful, driving but also slightly more melodic techno. I left at 530am – exhausted and completely happy!
Saturday was another perfect storm of techno with an Echocord showcase in Brooklyn, Dusty Kid and Andreas Henneberg with the Momentum promoters and a Re-Konstrukt agency party with a who’s who of techno. Sadly Dusty will have to take a rain check as weather problems saw him stuck in Rome. Hopefully a makeup date is coming soon.  I was still pretty beat from the night before so I opted for Psyk at the Hidden Recordings party at National Underground thinking I could have a low key early night! Not the case! The whole HR gang kept things moving all night and Psyk played a superb set. Opening was Domingo Cava, a HR stalwart with a really nice build up set which I was fortunate to catch most of. Finally HR boss Deepak Sharma finished out the night with some really hard and heavy tracks. Overall a great night.
This week is looking good with Kerri Chandler, Lee Burridge, Rebel Rave,Tin Man, Dj Qu, Black Asteroid and A. Paul. Not to mention the local talent at Momentum and Tech Soul and Open House!! Got to keep supporting local talent too!!

See you on the dance floor!
